The IT Industry is very broad and covers many professions. As with many industries, there are associations that IT Professionals can become members with, whether you are an IT Consultant or IT Contractor, Software Developer or other IT Professional.

Each association offers something slightly different with varying levels of membership. In this article we outline some of the benefits and membership details of IEEE – Computer Society.

IEEE Computer Society is one of the professional associations for Australia’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector. They also operate globally.

IEEE Computer society is dedicated to computer science and technology and can assist with providing information, networking and a source for career-development. They have the following membership categories:

  • Student Member – students to carry at least 50% of a normal full-time academic program and a regular course of study in a computer related field.
  • Affiliate Member – A membership for computer hardware, software and information technology professionals
  • IEEE Member – a membership with both computer society and IEEE, certain qualifications required
  • IEEE Senior Member – regular members can apply for senior membership once criteria are met
  • IEEE Fellow Member – this is a membership grade that members can get elected too as recognition for unusual distinction in the profession.
